Lions at Lunchtime

 

They whirled arund.

whirl v. to turn or spin aroun quickly.

 

It showed hordes of zebras(얼룩말).

hordes of : for groups of

* wildebeest (암소 비슷한 일종의) 영양

* gazelle 작은영양

 

A giraffe's hooves can be as big as dinner plates.

hoof : 발굽

 

They eat the coarsest grass.

coarse adj. 거친 having a rough surface

 

Annie wailed

wail v. to say, cry out in a loud, sad

 

A huge vulture circled overhead.

vulture n. 독수리 a large bird that eats dead animals.

 

She lunged for the roots.

lunge v. 달려들다 to make a sudden strong movement

 

The frantic swimmers kept coming.

frantic adj. 정신없는 extremely worried and frightened

 

A blast of water hit him

blast n. 돌풍 a strong movement of wind or air

 

the elephant let out a grunt

grunt n. short sound.

 

I'm spick and span now.

The hyenas yelped and scurried off.

He found her in a thick glade

Green leaves and vines swayed in the dappled light.

dappled adj. 아롱진 marked with spots of colour, light or shade

 

The little bird darted at the beehive and pecked at it.

peck v. 쪼다

jiggle v. 가볍게 흔들다 movements up and down or backwards and forwards

 

Annie stooped and stuck her finger into the golden honeycomb.

stoop. bent forwards and down

 

I'm sorry we were trespassing

trespassing 불법침해 to go onto someone's private land without their permission.

 

There was a big lion, three lionesses, and a bunh of cubs.
